USCGC Eagle's West Coast Cruise

(or simply, "Where Chris now?")

I'm very behind on the Eagle report, so let me catch up quickly.

We had a great time while Eagle was in San Francisco. An alumni reception onboard Eagle started the weekend on Friday evening. Quite a few local classmates were in attendance, including Tom C., Matt C., Smitty, and Chris, of course. We posed for a picture that I still need to track down and post. Chris and I were able to make it to a SF Giants game against the Diamondbacks on Sunday (SF got killed) and met up with Tom later that day for dinner and drinks. The three of us originally tried to watch the hurling matches at Balboa Park, but we arrived too late. Tom was VERY bummed!

I'm still collecting links to Eagle articles which I'll post below as soon as I find them. The Eagle is working her way down the West Coast to cut through Panama the second week in September. She's due to arrive back in New London just before Homecoming.

USCGC Eagle Hits San Diego

I have no idea when the USCGC Eagle last braved a trip to the West Coast, but she's deep in a cadet cruise this summer that just made it's first stop in San Diego. For those of you who don't know (as I didn't until recently), Chris Sinnett has clearly found his dream job as the Eagle's CO. The full port call schedule for the Eagle can be found on the Class Calendar. I can't wait for her stop in San Francisco! - Brad

The First '83er to Make Flag

Well it finally happened. The date is March 24, 2008 and in a small ceremony held at CG Headquarters at 10am EDT, Keith Taylor officially handed in his bars for stars to be the first in our class to make admiral. The promotion comes with a new job as well. He will be taking over the role of Assistant Commandant for Resources (CG-8). Congratulations and best wishes Keith. This is awesome news! I hope to have some good pictures to post soon. (3/23/08)

A Changing Of The Web Guard

As you may have heard a few weeks back, our faithful long term Class website webmaster was looking for a change - and this is it. A new location, a new look, a few new services, all built on top of the superb job Charlie has been doing over the years. I would personally like to thank Charlie for his exceptional work and dedication. I only hope I can come close to his example going forward.

From a redesign standpoint, I've decided to follow the below redesign criteria:

  • Ease of maintenance
  • Maintenance access from anywhere
  • A collaborative development environment
  • No special tools required
  • Maximum browser compatibility
  • More space for data and pictures
  • Personal information data protection

I hope you like the new look. It will continue to be a work in progress.

This is your website, so please let me know if you have something you want me to change or something you want me to try to implement. This environment can easily be maintained by multiple people, so if you're looking to help, feel free to let me know. I have a sneaky suspicion you'll still see Charlie's input from time to time (thank goodness!).
