(This edition of 1983 Class Notes is being ghost-written by your editor since the regular correspondent is on sabbatical this semester ...)

You may have noticed a blank spot in place of 83 notes last issue. Your correspondent (a.k.a. Vince) is on sabbatical and is working with a national foundation which promotes science and technology to high school students through regional and national robotics competitions. He is away 4-5 days per week and on his cell phone/e-mail when home, so... If you didn't get Christmas cards from us this year, don't fret. Even our parents didn't! We're sending April Fool's cards this year (but they may not arrive until after Easter ... ). It's been that kind of a winter. On to more exciting news.

Congratulations to Bill & Daphne McEachen on the birth of Paige Cooper McEachen on November 22nd (She's shown here with big sis Alaina, who'll be in high school next year. Are we really that old?).

They are enjoying life in Concord, CA, where they've just completed an addition to their house (just in time for the addition to the family).

Molly & Joe Riordan are happy to be back in sunny southern CA after their sojourn here in southeastern CT. Molly is at Air Station LA and Joe was re-hired by the CHP, working in West LA. Both claim to be enjoying commutes of less than 15 minutes (is this possible in CA?). Both Jack and Casey have adjusted well to the move and are enjoying all the little kid things in life.

Rick & Cathy Berard are still enjoying life in the central CA valley (Rocklin). Rick is an Area Business Manager with Biogen (biotech co.) and Cathy is working part-time at The Hartford Group and part time mom to Stephen (7) and Molly (5).

The Diehls have adjusted to CA and are enjoying being closer to family (?) and friends than when in Hawaii. Bert enjoys his work (again ?) and says his new hobbies are "changing diapers, wrestling small children and building with Legos ..." Rachel is busy driving the kids (Tom, Allie and Andrew) around in "the Barney van" and running in the hills in their neighborhood. Sounds familiar.

Vince briefly visited with Bert and Matt & Kathy Bliven when he was at a robot competition at the NASA-Ames site in their neck of the woods. I think they saw more of the robots than they did of him!

Matt & Kathy sent us two holiday greetings the traditional card/letter from home and a special e-mail one from Mr. XO, underway on the "Christmas Cutter" Morgenthau. Luckily for Kathy, her brother (Bert) and two sisters live in the area so she wasn't really alone for the holidays. The Blivens crowded their family and belongings into a small 2-bedroom house in exchange for being close to work, school, parks and shopping on Alameda Island, when they moved from Wisconsin last summer. It's hard to imagine doing that, but I give them a lot of credit. Sometimes I think we accumulate too much stuff anyway. Maybe we should all try it ... Kathy, you're my hero!

Holiday greetings from Cub Schlatter had him recovering from a tough year, but looking ahead enthusiastically. He's looking for a flying job on the east coast (see below E.City) so he could keep daughter Marie close to both parents.

Lincoln & Tracy Stroh are enjoying being back in the DC area. They are living in the same area they moved from and attend the same church both are very active there. Lincoln & Tracy celebrated their 13th anniversary on a cruise to the Bahamas sounds fun. Daughter Jessica (12) is active in sports, church activities and is a talented singer. Glenn (9) is quite the little athlete (a few of dad's genes may be helpful there). Allison (5) wishes she was old enough to go to school too.

Nick & Jackie Stagliano are looking forward to leaving NY this summer (they did get their first choice of Seattle gain see assignment information below). Evan (9) is a great student and enjoys basketball. Taylor (6) is an avid reader, completing at least on book each night before bed. Eric (5) started kindergarten and after a few weeks of tears has adapted well. He is a sports maniac wanting to try everything (I have one of those), he's busy with roller hockey, football and softball.

Charlie Jager e-mailed me: "Not a lot of news to pass. Bruce Toney stopped by to visit me at the MSO one day. He was down here from Kodiak with his buoy tender. All is well with him, he's about to become the comptroller at the base in Kodiak. He'll probably be managing more money than the mayor of Kodiak! He mentioned he visited Dow Webber & family recently down in Portland and they are all doing well. Luke seems to be recovering just fine from his recent illness. I also saw a lot of classmate's names in the message from the O-5 assignment panel. Looks like a lot of people will be moving to some nice jobs with more responsibility this summer."

Here's a photo that Tom Cullen sent from a recent lunch attended by the DC contingent. How many people can you name? More importantly, can anyone figure out what Terry is doing?

Also from Charlie: "I added a new feature to the website, called the CGA 83 Microcommunity. This is all java-based stuff. Anyone can join and become a member simply by creating a user name and password. Once you enter the microcommunity, you can engage in a chat session on-line, start a private chat with someone else, post messages on a bulletin board, post classified ads, etc. I can administer the whole thing, revoking someone's membership if they are being rude or they aren't even a member of our class. I can also change it so that new members will have to e-mail me and then I have to create a member profile for them before they can enter our community. We'll see, maybe it will find some use. I thought the bulletin board where anyone can post info or start discussions is kinda interesting. If not, it doesn't matter, it's free."

Charlie has also added a Homes listing to our class home page. This is a place where anyone in the CG can list homes for rent or purchase. It's a great way to advertise within the CG community. So if you're looking for a house to rent or buy or want to list yours, be sure to check it out.

Speaking of the CDR Assignments, here they are, in no particular order (You'll have to forgive me if I don't know all the acronyms. I try to keep up, but it's just not that important in the scheme of things ...):

Pete Zohorsky will be Chief of Inspections at MSO Hampton Roads. Cub Schlatter will be Assistant Aviation Engineering Officer at A/S Elizabeth City. Dave Gordnerwill be CO of NESU Charleston, Bill Timbs is going to A/S Clearwater. Terry Gilbreath heads south as XO of MSO Mobile. Chip Strangfeld will be Ops Officer at A/S San Diego. Molly Riordan and Gerry Dostie will take on that job at A/S LA and Humboldt Bay, respectively. Brian Musselman will continue as Engineer Officer of CGC Healy. Bruce Toney will indeed by Comptroller at ISC Kodiak. Nick Stagliano will be Chief of Personnel at ISC Seattle. Matt Cutts will be CO of CEU Honolulu. Jackie Stagliano will be Chief of Inspections at MSO Puget Sound. Mark PorvaznikKen Norris will be HU-25 Branch Chief at ATC Mobile.

At Headquarters (here's where I start to lose the acronyms), Sarah ShoresEd Theideman will be Dep. Project Manager in G-AIR; Ed Nagle will be Assistant WLM Project Manager in G-AWL; Jim O'Connor will be a Platform manager in G-OCA; Bob Pyle will be Chief of Naval Engineering Projects at G-SEN; and Dan Abel will be Chief of the Aviation Safety Division G-WKS.

Locally, Simone Albano will cross the river to be Comptroller at the R&D Center. Jack Jennings will be the Cadet Leadership Director at CGA. Karl Calvo will be Public Works Officer. And Jim Sweet will move from teaching Chemistry to the Cadet Training and Assessment staff. Jack & Laura Jennings have already been down (from SW Harbor, ME) house hunting so far without success. At least they are looking in the right area (we had NO influence on that, of course ... ).

Not much else new and exciting. I have spent so much time on our class that the magazine may be late getting out this month. Enjoy spring (As I write, DC had a big snow storm 8-10 inches, but it's sunny and warm 45 here in CT.) in all its forms.

Jean
