Greetings - Not a lot of Class news to pass. John Odell, our PacNorWest reporter, passed along some news regarding Bruce Toney, confirming that Bruce fleeted over from Polar Sea to Polar Star recently. "Yesterday (Valentine's Day) his cutter arrived in Antarctica. Pretty amazing when you think that one of our classmates is the CO of a Polar icebreaker. Kind of makes you feel old, don't it?"

"Anyhow, Bruce wasn't sure if he'd get a south trip during his tour of duty. As luck would have it, the Russian icebreaker broke a propeller and had some other engineering problems, so Bruce and his crew got deployed on short notice. Needless to say, he was jumping for joy at the opportunity to take his crew and his cutter to sea for a real mission to the bottom of the world. I think he now holds the course record for a transit from Seattle to McMurdo Sound. He promised to send me a picture of himself with his arm around a penguin. I'll send you a copy if he follows through on that promise!" As we went to press, Polar Star was due back in Seattle momentarily - with apparently no penguin shots.

Sue Daignault sent in a short update and a great photo of the one that didn't get away. In addition to being selected for 0-6 in the reserves, Sue is still in Maine, "working as an independent safety and health consultant out of the house, doing some fly-fishing instruction at LLBean on the side."

Vince got to visit with Joe Fischetti and Rick Berard during a recent trip to Boston for a FIRST Robotics Competition with son Tim.
