Greetings, Classmates.
Congrats to Barney Moreland who was selected for command of PSU 311 out of San Pedro, CA. Lots of other 83ers are on the move as well this summer. Here is what I gathered from a recent assignment message: Liam Slein - Deputy Sector Miami/CO MSO Miami, Lincoln Stroh - CO MSO Corpus Christi, Terry Gilbreath - CO MSO Morgan City, Tom Cullen- D 1 l OSR, Chris Sinnett - Atlantic Area AOO, Mike Tekesky - CO Hamilton, Bruce Toney- CO Polar Star, Matt Cutts- CO ISC Honolulu, Rick Gromlich - CO ARSC Elizabeth City, Tom Wade - XO ARSC Elizabeth City, Brian Marvin- CO Training Center Petaluma, Ed Theideman - CG-64, and Gil Teal- G-LPD. Jim Rendon is off to the National War College and Dan Abel will be attending ICAF. Congrats to all for the assignments. It is great to see the many accomplishments of our class continue.
Charlie Jager continues to do wonders with our class website. He posted lots of photos of the reunion at http://www.mindspring.com/~cjager/cga83/homephotos.html. Thanks, Charlie, for your continued efforts to keep our class connected.
The article on Booz Allen Hamilton in this issue has some nice coverage of Kirk Hiles and Greg Bartolett. It is good to see an organization that values the attributes of CGA grads, and it is no surprise this company is doing well.
The local '83 crowd is staying busy with folks taking on new jobs. Kyle MooreJim Sweet work for Perot Systems and are helping the CG develop short and long term strategies for officer assignment and development. Their offices are on the top floor of the CGA library, and I challenge anyone to say they have a quieter work environment. Pat Knowles is on the Mechanical Engineering faculty at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, CT. I suspect it will only be a few months before he runs the place.
A nice note came in from Ken Norris, including a picture of Ken & Angela's and beautiful family (from left to right): Adriana (8), Jacob (14), Angela, Ken, and Brittany (15).

Ken retired from the CG on January and has taken an excellent job as Contract Simulator Instructor with Lockheed Martin at Whiting Field. That means Ken has the same drive to work. A batch of Coast Guard friends attended Ken's retirement, which was immediately followed by returning to work for Lockheed Martin. In the photo are (from left to right): Russ Conatser, Joe Baker, Steve Plugge, Tom Tardibuono, Ken Norris, Steve Rausch, Damion Corum, Andy Berghorn, Tim McGuire, and Tim Aguirre. Congratulations Ken & Angela.

Rick Berard visited CGA in the middle of winter to participate in an alumni basketball game one Saturday morning. Rick led the odd-year team to a decisive victory over the even year teams and their success was ensured by Rick's four break-away behind the back dunks. Rick, his son Steven and I had lunch together in the Old Wardroom (it has a new name now that is more complicated and harder to remember) before moving on to see the cadet basketball team take on MIT. I was disappointed to not hear the old fight song, "Three point one four one five nine, secant, tangent, cosine, sine..."
