Greetings. We hope your summer has been restful and relaxing. Jean & I had a great time visiting with Jack & Laura Jennings at the opening of Laura's latest art show in Madison, CT, earlier this month. The enclosed work is a small sample of Laura's wonderful work but you can get a closer look at some of her paintings at http://www.ltryonjennings.com. The website doesn't do justice to her work, but it does allow you to get an idea of her creativity, use of color and free-flowing style. Jack is doing well at Harvard working with Bob Fogel in the School of Education.

A number of 83ers have gotten to know and become friends with Norm Paulus over the years. Norm worked for the Department of Transportation for 25 years and over that time became a great friend to many in the Coast Guard. A few years back Norm even was the guest class correspondent for an issue. Norm plans to continue to be active on the Coast Guard circuit now that he is retired, so 83ers should be sure to invite Norm to any functions you are hosting.
While attending Norm's retirement ceremony, I was able to talk to Al MarsilioAl was readying for his own retirement in two days, followed by a cross-country trip with his wife and children. Now that's the way to start a retirement. Following the vacation Al is hoping to continue to work in the DC area. The enclosed photo of Al's retirement was taken by Norm Paulus, so thanks Norm. for a bit.

The underway photo of Valiant CO Dave Cinalli and Borinquen Air Station CO Tom Wade was accompanied by a short note from Dave. It seems like Tom Wade was the duty pilot for the day and found a friendly cutter to visit. Where else can you have friends just drop in like that. Dave was able to visit with some CGA-83ers while he was at CGA for Prospective-CO school. Jim Sweet organized a get together with Dave, Keith Curran and Kyle Moore. It is nice to know that we still have some underway and airborne folks in the class.

A nice coincidence took place for Jean & I when we vacationed on Cape Cod in July with our sons. While we were in Brewster that week Joe & Paula Fischetti and their children were stating in Chatham which was the next town over. Since it was our first vacation on Cape Cod, Joe was invaluable giving the lay of the land on the local points of interest. We were able to get together for a night at the Wellfleet drive-in (a classic throw back in time from the playing of the national anthem at the start of the movie to the 1960's era playground equipment) as well as a camp-fire on the beach. While the camp-fire was getting started Joe's sons Nick and Matt gave me hints on boogie-boarding. It was a fun evening as well as a fun trip. If a larger group of 83ers want to gather on Cape Cod next July, maybe we should trade e-mails.

Charlie Jager recently sent an e-mail to the class reminding folks to update their contact information on the class webpage at http://www.mindspring.com/~cjager/cga83/logform.html. From my quick search it seems that Charlie has been sponsoring the class website for six or seven years! Thanks Charlie.
If you have any 83-news to share, send it along. It's easier to simply report what others send in than it is to make things up. Cheers - Vince & Jean
